The Friends Tour

Fortunately, we did our intrepid traveling when we were younger - when the knees, hips and other body parts were functioning at 100%. We always said that we would "save Scandinavia" for when we got old. Well, we are now... old(er), and it is time to visit dear friends from different phases of our lives.

Lena and Craig Savage (Sweden)
Harald and Michaela Lubberich (Germany)

July 25-26, 2017
We started our adventure aboard Airbus 380, seated in the Business Class lounge upstairs (very quiet!). BA 268 departed LAX on time @ 9:30PM, landing LHR (London) on time the next day at 4PM. However, because of a mechanical problem upon landing, we had to be towed to gate. This carved into our otherwise tight 90-minute transition to the British Air flight LHR>OSLO even tighter!

While we made it to the gate in time to board the second flight, our luggage did not make it. Fortunately, there was one more British Air flight  LRH-OSL 2 hours later that evening. Upon claiming our delayed bags, we then caught the FLYTOGEN (express airport train) to Oslo SentralStasjon (note spelling).

Trains depart every 15 minutes and cost NOK 180 (approximately $25USD) Note: Ned’s cost NOK 90 b/c he is >67 years old! Train trip is less than half-hour. We are staying at Comfort Hotel Grand Central, which is literally in the same building complex as the train station. Room for two nights cost NOK 2558 (approximately $280USD)

So, 24 hours after departing Santa Barbara we arrived at our destination in Oslo.
