Walt and Suzanne Coppenrath, friends from Manhattan Beach who now live full-time in Montisi came to lunch today with our new friend Ann Alexander and her dog Bella who live part-time in Montisi.
When asked if they miss life in the USA, both Walter and Suzanne respond with a resounding, "NO!" They clearly love their life here in this beautiful part of Italy, having embraced their contrada (more on that in an upcoming post) and the lifestyle. We look forward to seeing their home on Saturday. In the meantime...

The lunch:
Much effort went into the planning, shopping, fig foraging, and preparation of the meal. It truly was a team effort and much, much fun!
One of the results of our shopping efforts the previous day is my new #1 favorite Italian word: stuzzicadenti*
The repast began with prosciutto wrapped melon that Sandra prepared, special Pecorino Reserva (sheep milk, aged for 2 years) from Pienza, and ricotta stuffed peppers that Heather prepared.

Note: We learned from Ann Alexander, that no Italian dinner table would host a salt shaker....
Keith's main course was followed by my "Italian Flag Salad."
The meal was topped off with Sandra's dessert of just-this-morning harvested roasted figs that had been drizzled with balsamic vinegar and honey. These were artfully arranged in a ring around a lovely scoop of limone gelato purchased yesterday from C'era Una Volta in Lucignano. Unfortunately, I failed to remember to take a photo before I had devoured half of mine, so we must repeat this delight before Ned and I depart next week.
P.S. Apparently, I should not drink wine mid-day as, in addition to not photographing dessert, also missing are photos of Ann Alexander and Bella - Will be sure to capture their images when next we see them on Friday.
* stuzzicadenti = toothpicks
