Harald, Ned, Emmy Lou and I walked this morning. Burgbrohl is a tiny community comprised of eight families, several of whom are farmers. It also has one excellent hundepension (dog hotel).
Now a young family lives here.

In the 12th century (circa 1135) monks came to this Rheinland-Pfalz region looking for land on which to grow crops. The stone houses in the current village of Burgbrohl were monks' residences. The monks cultivated vineyards (behind Harald and Michaela's property - now a forest) for wine.
When Napoleon eliminated the churches, the Propstei was made into a stable. With local private funding, it now is preserved.
In summertime, they sponsor concerts (www.propstei-buchholz.de)
In May they also celebrate Virgin Mary in the Propstei.
And then there is also the Burgbrohl Hundepension...

Love the bas relief, della Robbia (sp) style story panels. Nice drawing and quartering! Looks like you're enjoying reconnecting with your German friends and seeing some beautiful and quaint areas. And eating well, as well! This is probably my last comment on your blog as we leave on Thursday and tomorrow will be a mad crush and my back-up drive goes into the safe deposit box as well. Enjoy the rest of your journeys. Keep your fingers crossed that we pass through the Path of Totality well ahead of the eclipsing crowds! Yikes! Hasta hugs!
