The Origins of Sound - Alle Origini del Suono

Friday 18 August ~ Firenze

Also at the Galleria dell'Academia in Florence was a marvelous exhibition: The Origins of Sound.
On exhibit were forty amazing musical instruments belonging to the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory.

In addition to the violoncello (1715), also on display is the original handmade Stradivari violin. We also learned about the origins of the modern-day piano.

Cristofori-Spienetta

The Piano Guitar (1793)
The Hurdy-Gurdy (1775)

We learned about the three characteristics of sound: hight, intensity and timbre.

We also learned about the science of sound wave vibrations made by striking, plucking or bowing strings or made by blowing into a reed-type structure.
