The other side of the Arno and a special church

Saturday 19 August ~ Firenze

Today we decided to explore the other side of the Arno River that runs through Florence. Expecting it to be more tranquil, we were disappointed, if not wrong! Neither one of us can figure out the intrigue of the Ponte Vecchio, the famous bridge crossing the Arno. It was a mob scene!

Note: We returned from our sojourn via a different bridge - the Ponte San Trinita.

The highlight of our adventure was the Chiasa di San Spiritu, which, on the outside is rather unimpressive. However, we were enchanted by the interior!

Whenever we travel abroad, I search for a special church or chapel in which to light a candle for Marika. This was the church for this trip.

The marble and stucco sculpture of the Archangel Rafaelle (1698) is by Giovanni Baratta.
