Die FrauKirch der Eifel Camino

Monday 14 August

Today we all hopped in the Porsche Cayenne (including Emmy Lou) with Harald at the wheel and drove back roads through pastoral Rhineland to the Mosel River Valley.  In general, the area between the Rhine and Mosel Rivers is the volcanic Eifel region.

Near the town of Kroft, where Michaela grew up, is a charming church: Die FrauKirch (Lady Chapel). The FrauKirch is on Der Eifel-Camino, a pilgrimage walk.
Michaela has many fond memories of visiting the FrauKirch.

The magnificent 3-D art (bas relief?) in this otherwise humble chapel depicts the legend of a king - circa 1279 - who went away to war. While he was gone, one of his generals abducted the king's wife and hid her away in the forest. Upon the king's return, he learned what had happened and had the general drawn and quartered (gevierteilt).
