Il Meleto - Toscano

Sunday 20 August

We took a taxi to the Mediterraneo Hotel to facilitate Keith and Heather's plan to pick us up in Florence before going to the airport to then pick up Tony and Sandra who were flying in from Barcelona (yes, they were there for the terrorist horror...).

We drove through the Chianti region so that we could appreciate the difference between Chianti and Toscano (Tuscany). Tuscany is experiencing a crisis-level drought - worse even than Santa Barbara!

Despite the drought, the grounds of Il Meleto, the villa we are renting, are lovely! While Il Meleto means Apple Orchard, we have yet to find an apple tree. Instead, we have an abundance of olive trees and have been enjoying the figs we harvest daily while attempting to avoid being bonked on the head by almonds that fall onto the dining porch. There is also a heavily laden tree of not-yet-ripe pomegranates.
